Custom-Designed Vacuum Furnace

Vacuum level and temperature range are usually the easy part of a spec. It’s the chamber size, atmosphere control, or process cycle that pushes a project past what’s sitting in a catalog, and that’s when Sentro Tech builds a custom-designed vacuum furnace instead of a modified stock unit. We’ve engineered these to order since 1998, working directly with your team on the design. Every custom build is manufactured at our Ohio facility.

Custom Vacuum Furnace Specs Built Around Your Process

A custom-designed vacuum furnace from Sentro Tech isn’t a stock unit with an added pump. We adjust chamber dimensions and heating element configuration to match your process, engineered up to 24″ x 24″ x 24″, the largest chamber on our vacuum platform, with a maximum operating temperature of 1600°C (2910°F).

Our vacuum platform shifts between vacuum and a backfilled inert atmosphere within a single cycle: pull down to 10⁻² torr, then backfill with argon or nitrogen up to 900 torr positive pressure. A mass flow controller regulates the gas flow rate, and a GE oxygen transmitter monitors purity throughout the cycle.

Every unit ships with a 30-segment programmable PID controller, with Eurotherm 3504 and Nanodac options available for data logging and computer communication. The chamber runs on MoSi2 heating elements and a platinum/rhodium thermocouple for accurate temperature readings.

Built to Handle What a Lab or Production Floor Deals With

Energy cost per cycle adds up fast on a custom vacuum furnace pulling deep vacuum for hours at a time. Our ceramic fiber board lining keeps heat in the chamber instead of leaking into the room, lowering energy waste and keeping the exterior cooler for anyone working near it.

Safety is designed into the build, as well. An automatic shut-off feature cuts power if a fault is detected, and the oxygen sensor flags an atmosphere problem before it becomes a batch problem.

Downtime matters just as much. Every custom vacuum furnace carries a one-year limited warranty on electronic parts, and the platinum/rhodium thermocouple and MoSi2 heating elements are built for a long service life under normal operating conditions.

Trusted Across Demanding Applications

Custom-designed vacuum furnaces from Sentro Tech are used in:

  • Heat treating and brazing
  • Sintering and annealing
  • Material testing and metallurgical studies
  • Binder removal and thermal processes requiring minimal contamination

3M, NASA, GE, and Dow Corning have all put Sentro Tech furnaces to work, every one of them built in the USA at our Strongsville, Ohio, facility.

How the Custom Vacuum Furnace Process Works

When building a custom vacuum furnace, we keep you involved at every step:

  1. It starts with a conversation with our engineers about your vacuum level and temperature range.
  2. From there, our team proposes a design and sends over a mock-up for you to review before anything is built.
  3. Before it ships, you’ll visit our Ohio facility to see the furnace running, put it through its paces, and get your technicians trained on it.
  4. After delivery, we stay on for maintenance guidance and replacement parts through the life of the furnace.

Custom Vacuum Furnace FAQs

How much longer does a custom vacuum furnace take compared to a standard model?

Most standard vacuum furnace models are in stock for quick delivery. A custom build takes longer because it moves through engineering and design approval before fabrication starts. Send us your vacuum level and temperature requirements, and we’ll scope a timeline against our current build schedule.

What vacuum level can a custom vacuum furnace reach, and can it go lower than standard?

Our vacuum platform is engineered to 10⁻² torr. If your process needs a deeper vacuum or a different pump-down time, tell us the target during the design consultation, and we’ll confirm what the chamber size and configuration can achieve.

Does a custom vacuum furnace also run inert-gas and open-air atmospheres, or do I need separate equipment?

A single custom vacuum furnace can move between vacuum, inert atmosphere, and open air within one cycle, so a process like binder removal and sintering can happen in the same chamber without transferring parts between units.

How do you size the vacuum pump for our application?

Pump sizing depends on the vacuum level and pump-down time your process needs. We work that out during the design consultation based on your chamber volume and how quickly you need to reach depth between runs.

What certifications and warranty come with a custom vacuum furnace?

Every custom vacuum furnace carries a one-year limited warranty on electronic parts. If your facility or project requires specific electrical certifications, let us know during the design consultation, and we’ll confirm what we can build to.
